Petit Jean was the first state park in Arkansas. It was constructed by the CCC in the 1930's and many of the original stone buildings are still used. The highlight of the park is the Adirondack-style historical mountain lodge, the Mather Lodge, which overlooks the beautiful Cedar Creek Canyon. The park offers breathtaking vistas and trails through the forest, canyons, meadows, and along side streams and mountainsides. One can enjoy much beauty in this park while touring the Bear Cave, taking a walk down the wooden trail path to the overlook to 95-foot Cedar Falls, viewing beautiful sunsets from the windows of the Mather Lodge, or kayaking on Lake Bailey, or just sitting in a picnic area in the park. If you need to do something on a rainy day or aren't into hiking, take in the Museum of Automobiles with its outstanding antique cars showcased there.

Petit Jean has an outstanding campgrounds with many sites having full hook-ups. There is also a beautiful lodge with a restaurant and rustic cabins with fantastic views for those who do not camp. If you need a motel, check out Morrilton, a nearby city.
